Dr. Richard Phillips has been caring for animals for over 30 years, ever since graduating with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from The University of Queensland in 1989. After starting out in mixed practice on farms and pets in Tamworth, and spending five years working in the UK countryside, Richard made Canberra his home — and he hasn’t looked back (except maybe missing the fresh air and scenic drives, not the midnight call-outs!).
For Richard, being a vet means supporting the families who love their animals — no matter the size of the family. He believes that happy, healthy pets make for happier, healthier people.
He’s been part of the Weston Creek Veterinary Hospital family for more than 20 years, raising his own family here alongside Dr. Meredith. His special passion lies in small animal surgery, particularly surgical oncology and reconstructive procedures, earning him membership in the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists.
No two days are the same for Richard, and that variety — plus the close-knit Canberra community — is what makes his work so rewarding.
